Pelecanus onocrotalus

Pelecanus onocrotalus, also known as the Great White Pelican, is an impressive bird species renowned for its striking white plumage, black-tipped wings, and its large, iconic bill with a yellowish-orange pouch.

It is primarily found in shallow wetlands, lakes, and rivers, and while it is more common in southeastern Europe, this species has been recorded in Croatia during its migrations. The Great White Pelican is a highly social bird, often forming large colonies, and is known for cooperative hunting, where several pelicans work together to drive fish into shallow waters before scooping them up in their expansive bills.
